Background

Descriptions  Local business organizations are confronted with increasing global competition. To face up to these challenges, managers and decision makers need to fully understand the role of the operations function and its impact on competitiveness.

Production and operations management involves the integration of numerous activities and processes to produce products and services in a highly competitive global environment. Many companies have experienced a decline in market share as a result of their inability to compete on the basis of product design, cost or quality. Most now agree that world class performance in operations, i.e., in product design, manufacturing, engineering and distribution, is essential for competitive success and long term survival.

Participants will learn how enterprises can  organize and manage resources (manpower, technology, facilities, and materials), and the course covers concepts, procedures, and technologies used in designing and managing operational processes in both manufacturing and service-oriented organizations, with emphasis on informed decision-making and the use of analytical tools effectively and efficiently to create and

deliver products and/or services that respond effectively to customer requirements and expectations.

This course considers the operations from a managerial perspective. We will consider key performance measures of operations (productivity, quality and response time) as well as important concepts for improving the performance of operations along these dimensions. At the end of the course participants s will have a fair understanding of the role Production and Operations Management plays in business processes. Emphasis is given both to familiarization of various production processes and service systems, and to quantitative analysis of problems arising in the management of operations.

This course examines the functional area of production and operations management as practised in the manufacturing industry. The course includes decision- making, capacity planning, aggregate planning, forecasting, inventory management, distribution planning, materials requirements planning (MRP), project management and quality control.

The AAPM® certification process, administered by GAFM Board, identifies to the public that those individuals who have been authorized to use the AAPM® certification marks in the globe have met rigorous professional standards and have agreed to adhere to the principles of integrity, objectivity, competence, fairness, confidentiality, professionalism and diligence when dealing with clients.
